This has got to be my favorite block to make using the Wonder Cut Ruler. The final product looks difficult, but it's really a snap to put together. Ready for an adventure?
Here we go! Four part half-square triangles the Wonder Cut Ruler way! Again, lots of pictures, so be patient while they load.
For these instructions, I will be using fabrics from my scrap box. The sample shown makes 5-1/2" unfinished squares. This makes into a fun scrappy quilt. Enjoy!
1) Begin by selecting two fabrics. Cut 1 strip
from each selected fabric 2-1/2" wide (regular 2-1/2" NOT Wonder Cut Ruler
2-1/2"). Sew right sides together with a 1/4" seam and press the
seam open.
2) Select two more fabrics. Cut 1 strip from
each selected fabric on the 5-1/2" line of the Wonder Cut Ruler.
3) Place fabric strips together and sew a 1/4" seam down
one long side of the fabric strips. Press seams open.
4) Align the 5-1/2" line of the Wonder Cut Ruler along one side and begin cutting. You will be making a series of 2 patches. Assembly line sew these 2 patches together in a long strip the length of your 2-1/2" strips.
5) Lay the assembled 2 patches right sides together with your assembled 2-1/2" strips. Sew a 1/4" seam down both sides.
6) Align the 5-1/2" diagonal line of the Wonder Cut Ruler
along the bottom edge of your fabric. Align the perpendicular line
with the center of your seam. Cut one side.
7) Cut the other side. Continue cutting your 4 part half-square triangles down the length of your strip (the same way as the three part half-square triangles were cut). Press your seams to one side.
8) Assemble your squares together as shown. Press
seams to one side. This makes 1/2 of a block.
9) Assemble these two "halves" together to make your completed block. Press seams to one side.
There you have it! Four part half-square triangles. As you can see, this makes a great project for cleaning out that scrap box, and if your scrap box is anything like mine, it is crammed to the brim, or it was anyway before I started making these 4 part half-square triangle quilts!
